PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing hydroxymethyltriethylenediamines simply and safely without using a reducing agent having a high risk of ignition and without requiring multi-stage reactions. SOLUTION: The hydroxymethyltriethylenediamines represented by general formula (2) are produced by subjecting specific piperazines and glycerine to an intramolecular dehydration condensation reaction in the presence of an acid catalyst.
