PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article which suppresses the expanse of an excretion fluid or the like enhances the fluid sucking force toward a lower layer and can obtain a good wearing feeling, and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The absorbent article includes a surface sheet 2, a back sheet 3 and the absorber 1 arranged between both sheets 2 and 3. The absorber 1 has a multilayered structure composed of an upper layer part 1a and a lower layer part 1b both of which are formed by folding up both sides of the absorber along the longitudinal direction of the absorber to laminate them and compressed regions (Q) more densified than the central part in the width direction of the upper layer part 1a are provided to the folding-up edge parts on both sides in the width direction of the folded-up absorber and the lower layer part 1b.
