<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent or suppress a defect of a print accommodator and a printing apparatus due to a short-circuit of a detecting circuit and the other circuits in the printing apparatus which has the detecting circuit for detecting the presence or the absence of the kind of the print accommodator and the mounting thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The printing apparatus 20 includes: a contact detecting terminal 101 brought into contact with a detecting terminal 116 of an ink cartridge 70 when the ink cartridge 70 is installed; a cartridge detecting circuit M10a for detecting if the detecting terminal 116 and the contact detecting terminal 101 contact each other; a sensor terminal 104 for outputting a high voltage; and a sensor drive circuit M20 for controlling the voltage outputted from the sensor terminal 104. The cartridge detecting circuit M10a has a function as a short-circuit detecting means for detecting the short-circuit of the contact detecting terminal 101 and the sensor terminal 104.
