<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus and a character display method establishing compatibility of display positions between a character and a message to be displayed. <P>SOLUTION: When the message is accepted, a pop-up display system 103 determines an event classification according to the message. Then, the pop-up display system 103 outputs the event classification determined by an event issuance determination part 106, superposed scene information, and mascot image position information to a character engine 104.
