<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a configuration that highly accurately detects a change from an operation state to a non-operation state or a change from the non-operation state to the operation state without requiring complicated work, in an optical information reader switching between a predetermined mode and a power saving mode suppressing power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The optical information reader 1 is configured such that a light receiving sensor 23 is housed in a case 2, and a read port 5 for guiding light reflected from an information code to the light receiving sensor 23 is formed on one end side of the case 2. Further, a first light quantity sensor 61 is provided on the side of the read port 5 of the case 2, and a second light quantity sensor 62 is provided on the side different from the read port 5.
