<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ball end mill having a structure being effective for prolonging its service life and improving surface roughness of a work surface and capable of improving strength of a cutting edge, achieving smooth cutting, and enhancing the effect of smooth discharge of chips. <P>SOLUTION: In this ball end mill provided with the ball cutting edge 3 having a projecting shape in the direction of tool rotation for a straight line extended from the center O of rotation to an outer end 3o in the radial direction of the ball cutting edge when viewed in front of tool, a rake angleγof each part of the ball cutting edge 3 is set to a scope of -10°to 0°, and a negative value of the rake angleγis increased toward an intermediate point in the radial direction from a tip of the ball cutting edge 3 and the outer end 3o in the radial direction of the ball cutting edge and is made maximum at substantially the intermediate point in the radial direction. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
