摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide focal point detection method and focal point detecting device that makes a strobe preliminarily emit a light one time and shortens the search time without wasting the light emission. <P>SOLUTION: The focal point detecting device includes an imaging means that photographs a subject and obtains image data; a strobe means; and a focal point detection means that searches for a focusing state, based on the image data picked up by the imaging means, while moving the focusing lens group of a photographic optical system between a close position and a distant position. The focal point detecting device, further, includes a control means. The control means obtains the difference between a subject luminance obtained from image data photographed by making the strobe means preliminarily emit a light, prior to the focusing state is scanned by the focal point detecting means and a subject luminance obtained from image data photographed, without making the strobe emit a light, prior to or after photographing by using the preliminary emitted light. When the luminance difference is equal to or below a predetermined value, the control means searches for the focusing state, from a distant position to a close position. If the luminance difference (absolute value) exceeds a predetermined value, the control means searches for the focusing state, from the close position to the distant position; and when the control means detects a focusing position in the course of the search, it makes the search end. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
