PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical gamma thermometer (30), including a metallic mass (34) that has temperature proportional to the gamma flux in a core (15) of a nuclear reactor, and an optical fiber cable (32) that measures the temperature of the heated metallic mass.
SOLUTION: The temperature of the heated metallic mass (34) can be measured, by using one or a plurality of fiber lattice structures (42) and/or using the Raman, Brillouin or other scattering methods. The optical gamma thermometer (30) is used, along with a heat balance of the conventional nuclear reactor for calibrating the local power range monitor (M) over the useful in-service life. The optical gamma thermometer (30) occupies a far smaller space in an in-core instrument tube (24), as compared with a conventional gamma thermometer (T), and remarkably reduces the cost.
COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
|
