<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a continuous casting method and a continuous casting machine for steel where, when a slab at the last stage of solidification is subjected to rolling reduction at a draft in a degree of a shrinkage upon solidification so as to cast a continuously cast slab of steel in which central segregation is slight, the efficiency of the light reduction is increased, and the slab which has slight central segregation and can also deal with severe quality demand in recent years is stably produced. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the rolling reduction of the slab is continued in the light rolling reduction zone so as to cast a continuously cast slab of steel, using a continuous casting machine 1 provided with a light rolling reduction zone 14 composed of two or more pairs of rolling reduction rolls, from the time at which the solid phase ratio of the central part in the thickness of a slab 10 is ≤0.4 to the time at which at least the solid phase ratio of the central part in the thickness of the slab reaches ≥0.7, the rolling reduction gradient of the light rolling reduction zone is increased in accordance with the increase of a casting speed.
