<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic component capable of preventing a wire from projecting from a flange part while reducing height by thinning the flange part, and a method of manufacturing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A core 11 comprises a core part 11a, and a flange part 11b being a flat flange part 11b formed at one end of the core part 11a and provided with two grooves 15a, 15b extending on a principal surface. Two electrodes 13a, 13b are arranged on the two grooves 15a, 15b, respectively. A wire 12 is wound around the core part 11a, extends in the two grooves 15a, 15b, and is connected to the two electrodes 13a, 13b. Flat parts 12a, 12b of the wire 12 located in the two grooves 15a, 15b are formed thinner than the part of the wire 12 wound around the core part 11a, in the direction in which the core part 11a extends.
