<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of reducing waste of an intermediate transfer medium and shortening the issuing time in an indirect transfer printing apparatus of ID cards or the like and an apparatus therefor. <P>SOLUTION: A thermal head abuts an image receiving layer of the intermediate transfer medium having the image receiving layer, via an ink ribbon having transfer ink. A primary transfer means transfers an image composed of the transfer ink onto the image receiving layer of the intermediate transfer medium by heat generation control of the thermal head. A secondary transfer means transfers the image receiving layer having the image to a transfer medium by heating the transfer medium and applying pressure thereto via the intermediate transfer medium. An indirect transfer printing apparatus has the primary transfer means and the secondary transfer means.
