<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a polarization state of high ellipticity in a laminated quarter wave plate in which a first wave plate and a second wave plate made of an optically uniaxial crystalline material are arranged so that respective optical axes may across each other at 90°. <P>SOLUTION: In the laminated quarter wave plate 1, phase difference of the first wave plate 2 is made to satisfy Γ<SB>1</SB>=360°+γ+n×360°, (provided that, -90°≤γ≤+90°and n is a nonnegative integer) and a phase difference of the second wave plate 3 is made to satisfy Γ<SB>2</SB>=Γ<SB>1</SB>-90° or to be 270°. Further allowable deviation γ of the phase difference of the first wave plate is determined so that a polarization state of emission light satisfies desired ellipticity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
