PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool excellent in abrasion resistance and capable of finishing a surface of a material to be cut high in quality by suppressing welding of the material to be cut to the tool. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool comprises a base member 110 and a coating formed on the base member. The coating partially includes a layer composed of a compound expressed in a chemical formula: Al<SB>1-x</SB>Cr<SB>x</SB>N<SB>y</SB>O<SB>z</SB>C<SB>u</SB>.
