<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic transfer master carrier with high signal quality, which obtains a highly-oriented magnetic layer whose shape hardly degrades even when an underlying layer is thin, and which is superior in signal quality, and a method for producing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The magnetic transfer master carrier includes an oriented base material, a thin underlying layer formed on the oriented base material and the magnetic layer formed on the thin underlying layer.The method of manufacturing the magnetic transfer master carrier includes: a step of applying thermal treatment before forming a conductive layer on a surface of a pattern side of a patterned silicon substrate, a conductive layer forming step of forming an Ni conductive layer on the silicon substrate after thermal treatment, a plating step of applying Ni plating on the silicon substrate having the conductive layer to form a base material, and a pealing step of pealing the base material from the silicon substrate.
