<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus of high safety and high reliability that, in case of a commercial AC power failure, certainly stores data related to processing until the power failure without affecting another operation such as paper conveyance. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When the commercial AC power 101 fails, after a predetermined condition related to the operation of the apparatus is established, supply of voltage E1 for operation from a smoothing capacitor 118 of a rectifying circuit 116 to a power system load is blocked, voltage remaining in the smoothing capacitor 118 is applied to the output side of the rectifying circuit 120, and supply of voltage E2 for operation to a control system load is continued.
