SOLUTION: An illumination unit 120 includes a control unit 200 for controlling the amount of yellow component light superimposed on green component light. The yellow component light is made incident on a green optical modulation element 50G being the optical modulation element which corresponds to the green component light. The green optical modulation element 50G comprises a plurality of pixels. For each of the plurality of pixels, a weight coefficient fWis determined according to each position of the plurality of pixels. The control unit 200 controls the superimposing amount of the yellow component light on the basis of a green input signal Gincorresponding to the green component light and the weight coefficient fW.
