PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission, stably starting by surely forming a starting shift stage even in any state. SOLUTION: In starting, when a use determining means determines that the starting shift stage is not initially formed using a one-way clutch (S1-S3), since the oil temperature T of a hydraulic fluid of the automatic transmission is lower than the predetermined temperature T<SB>1</SB>having a risk of causing sliding in the one-way clutch, the starting shift stage is formed by locking a brake locked in the coast (S4-S7). When the starting shift stage is formed, transfer control is performed for gradually releasing the brake, and afterwards, the control is transferred to a quick drain control, and the hydraulic pressure of a hydraulic servo of the brake is quickly discharged, and the brake is surely released up to the next shift.
