<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens holder that is simpler in configuration and is more reduced in motor load when a barrel extends and retracts. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The lens holder 10 holding a lens system 16 that includes a first lens group 11 and a second lens group 12 further includes: a first unit 30 holding the first lens unit 11; a second unit (retracting unit) 40 holding the second lens group 12; a first drive mechanism (cam mechanism) 50 that moves the first unit 30 to a first storage position in a backward direction along an optical axis L; and a second drive mechanism (retracting mechanism) 60 that moves the retracting unit 40 in a direction orthogonal to the optical axis L by using, as power, the backward movement of the first unit 30 to the storage position, thereby moving the unit 40 to a second storage potion parallel to the first unit 30.
