<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for controlling the mold clamping force of a toggle-type mold clamping device, which enables a shortening of times required for mold-clamping by controlling the number of rotations to the maximum along the maximum load characteristic of a motor to improve a cycle time. Ž<P>SOLUTION: During a mold clamping process, a crosshead 17 is further operated from a contact state of a die 18, when the mold clamping force is increased, torque is detected from the current value of the number of rotations-deformable type pump motor 38 to increase the rotating speed of the number of rotations-deformable type pump motor 38 to a maximum extent, and the rotating speed of the number of rotations-deformable type pump motor 38 is controlled along the maximum load characteristic in the number of rotations-deformable type pump motor 38.
