The system has a coiler (16) for unwinding a strap (10), and a tank (18) for receiving diluted cryogenic fluid, where the tank embrittles a rubber of a section of the strap that is unwound by the coiler and immersed into the fluid. Cylinders grind the embrittled rubber, and separating rollers separate the ground rubber from a core of the strap, where the core is in the form of a metallic grid (12). The rollers have blades arranged at opposite sides of the strap for scraping the rubber of opposite external layers, where the blades are arranged in vertical direction at different heights.
