<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce an environmentally friendly, inexpensive, highly pure hexagonal boron nitride powder by recovering and recycling boron and calcium contained in wastewater generated during a production process of hexagonal boron nitride. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A method for producing the hexagonal boron nitride powder comprises steps of: adding melamine to an aqueous solution containing 700-25,000 ppm boron and 1,000-6,000 ppm calcium and having a pH of 5.0-8.0; after melamine is dissolved, cooling the aqueous solution so as to induce precipitation of solid contents of melamine borate and calcium borate; and heating the solid contents in an inert gas atmosphere so as to obtain the hexagonal boron nitride powder. In the method for producing the hexagonal boron nitride powder, 1.5-5.0 g of melamine is dissolved in 100 g of the aqueous solution. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
