<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of mechanically winding a thick winding wire around an annular core. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The annular core 46 is fixed by a core clamp mechanism 30, a first fixing clamp 3, the core clamp mechanism 30, and a rotary clamp 16 are positioned side by side in a longitudinal direction so that the winding wire 45 is substantially linear, and the rotary clamp 16 and a second fixing clamp 28 are vertically moved. When the core clamp mechanism 30 and rotary clamp 16 or second fixing clamp 28 are arranged laterally side by side, the core clamp mechanism 30 is laterally moved to the vicinity of the rotary clamp 16 or second fixing clamp 28 or away therefrom to wind the winding wire around the annular core.
