The wedge member 11 is tapered at an angle. slightly greater than that of the conical bore of the body 10 so that when the shank 15 is screwed into position, the wires or strands 19 between the wedge member 11 and the body 10 are gradually compressed up the taper to give the rope good resistance to shock loading and vibration. In Fig. 3 (not shown) the strands 19 merge together above the wedge 11 and join the core 20 before entering a bore in the shank into which the core 20 extends. |
