<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mainly provide a connected device display name editing device and a connected device display name editing method capable of displaying the name of a connected device, or the like more effectively by taking into consideration usability to a user. <P>SOLUTION: The connected device display name editing device is provided with a connection means in which an external device such as a DVD recorder is connected, a device name displaying means for outputting a display name of the external device, and a device name editing means for allowing the user to edit the display name of the external device by inputting characters. For example, the connected device display name editing device has an entry of an "free input (editing)" in a device display name selection menu.
