The directions of the phase advance axes of the birefringent substrate 18 depend on the position within the birefringence substrate 18, and distribute radially like the phase advance axes 22C, 22R and 22L in each of the center, right and left of the birefringent substrate 18. When the birefringent elements are cut out from the birefringence substrate 18, the birefringence substrate 18 is cut so that the direction of each birefringent element in the birefringence substrate 18 has a radial shape that expands from the side close to an evaporation source of the oblique evaporated film to a far side in the birefringence substrate 18.
