<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a synchronization signal pattern which is more surely detected. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In order that inter-symbol interference is less likely to occur in a high-density disk, a pattern (a second SYNC pattern), wherein a pattern breaking a maximum run is sandwiched between patterns other than a minimum run is used as a synchronization signal to be added. Pattern generation takes place through switching to/from a processing for adding a conventional synchronization signal pattern (first SYNC pattern), according to identification information on whether a disk is a high-density disk.
