Disclosed is a wheel bearing device with rotational speed detector having a protective cover to shield and protect a magnetic encoder from the outer side of the wheel bearing, and wherein the positioning accuracy and reliability are improved, while increasing the rigidity of the protective cover and thereby suppressing deformation thereof. A protective cover (16) of the wheel bearing device with rotational speed detector is fabricated from a non-magnetic austenitic stainless steel plate by pressing and comprises: a cylindrical fitting portion (10a) that fits into an outer member (2); a disc-shaped shielding portion (16a) that extends radially inward therefrom; a base portion (10d) that, by way of an inclined portion (10c) from the shielding portion (16a), closes the inner-side end portion of an inner member (1); and a stepped portion (10e) that projects to a concavity (7a) of a swaged portion (7) in the middle portion of the base portion (10d). The fitting portion (10a) is positioned to abut a step portion (2d) formed in the inner periphery of the end portion of the outer member (2), a brow-shaped recessed portion (17) is formed in the shielding portion (16a) in such a way as to approach the magnetic encoder (14), and a sensor is disposed in this region.
