The embodiments of the invention extend the OAM function of the LR-PON device, enable the LR-PON device to transmit the OAM message without depending on any other devices, and improve the OAM characteristic of the LR-PON device, for example, PON protection can be better supported, and the speed and success rate of the protection switching of the PON system are increased.
