The sensor (10) has a flange unit (12) including a bearing for receiving a hollow shaft (18). A housing is coupled with the flange unit at a side facing towards the shaft, such that the flange unit and the housing closely surround an inner space, which accommodates a signal generating unit with a connection cable (30) for connecting the sensor with an evaluation unit. An energy storage (24) i.e. buffer battery, is arranged outside the inner space, or is pivotally coupled to the flange unit via the housing, where the energy storage is detachably attached to the housing.
