The arm rest (2) has bearing journals (4) adjustably supported at a carrier element (3) and adjusted between an engaged position and a removal position. The bearing journals engage into a bearing seat (5) of a carrying structure (6) of a motor vehicle in the engaged position. The bearing journals are outwardly engaged with the bearing seat in the removal position. A spring element (8) extends between the bearing journals and pushes the bearing journals apart. The spring element is made of a flexibly ductile spring wire.
