<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To update information as needed, and to be easily aware of the updating of the information. <P>SOLUTION: An information providing system 10 includes an IC card 11, a management device 12, and an automatic ticket gate 13. Personal information and a serial number of a customer are stored in a memory of the IC card 11, when holding up the IC card 11 over a reception reader writer 40, and a card key with those is lent. The Personal information excepting information of preference or the like is erased when holding up the IC card 11 over the reception reader writer 40, at the time of check-out, to be transferred to the customer. The information of preference or the like read in from the IC card 11 is transmitted to the management device 12, when inserting the IC card 11 into a card holder 18 and when holding up it over a ticket gate reader writer 46 of the automatic ticket gate 13, and corresponding service information is input into the IC card 11 via the ticket gate reader writer 46.
