<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve usability while copy control is performed, when a digital broadcasting program marked as "copy-one-generation" is to be recorded. Ž<P>SOLUTION: There is provided a copy control method in a receiver which receives digital content and a plurality of kinds of copy control information, controlling copying of the digital content and records the digital content on a recording medium, in accordance with the copy control information. When the received copy control information contains first copy generation information, indicating copy-one-generation and second information indicating that a restricted number of copies are permitted, the digital content can be recorded as long as it can be copied up to the restricted number. When the second information does not indicate that a restricted number of copies are permitted, the digital content is inhibited from being copied, and only a single copy is recorded.
