PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable each of controlling units to set up an address of each of them automatically without need of an operator. SOLUTION: The illumination system includes a plurality of controlling units 10-1 to 10-n to control illumination state of an illumination load based on illumination control signal, an operation means 30 sending an address setting signal for setting an address to each of the controlling units 10-1 to 10-n, an address setting line 24 for sending an address setting signal for setting the address to each of the controlling units 10-1 to 10-n, delay circuits 12-1 to 12-n composing an address signal processing means for performing a delay process on the address setting signal obtained from the address setting line and sending it to the subsequent controlling unit, and a detecting means 15 and a setting means 16 which are an address setting means for setting an address to be used by a self controlling unit based on the address setting signal obtained from the address setting line 24.
