The present invention relates to a method for adapting a flow rate in an apparatus for generating a video data flow, and more particularly in a flow IP encapsulator. The invention proposes a method for adapting the input flow rate of the IPE. The method is based on a predictive calculation of the IPE effective output flow rate based on received data and on a set of buffers used for calculating error correction codes within the IPE.
