Class 17(2) In a shoe comprising an upper lining 30, Fig. 7, an insole 36 stitched to the upper lining only, and an upper assembly 10, Fig. 9, the upper and inner lining are stitched together along the throat opening 42 only, and that portion of the upper forward of the heel breast line is turned out and stitched down to the outsole. Before the sole is attached a counterstiffener 44, Fig. 11, may be inserted and the assembly subjected to a die moulding pressure to unite the quarters with the counter stiffener and shape the heel end of the shoe. The lasting margins of the heel end of the upper 35, Fig. 9, are turned in to form a heel attaching flange. A last is inserted and heel piece 46, Figs. 10a, 11, is placed in the heel seat area to the rear of the insole and attached to the upper, upper lining, and counter stiffener by tacks or staples 48, Fig. 11. Outsole 50, Fig. 12, is attached by stitching 52 to the out-turned edge of upper 12 forward of the heel breast line, and by staples 56, Fig. 11, to heel piece 46 in the heel seat area. A welt-strip 54, Fig. 12, may be used to cover the out-turned edge of the upper. |
