<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for charging a battery using an intermittent power source which is easily mounted and has a long battery life. <P>SOLUTION: An autonomous system includes the intermittent power source 2 supplying a direct current I<SB>1</SB>. The method involves at least one stage of charging with a pulse current managed by a charging control circuit, and a supercapacitor 6 is connected in parallel with the battery 1 and the power source 2 respectively via a first electronic switch 4 and a second electronic switch 5. Charging the battery includes pulse current charging managed by a control circuit 3. During a current pulse, the amplitude of the current pulse and the amplitude of the voltage increase at the terminals 1 of the battery are measured. The dynamic internal resistance of the battery is determined by the amplitudes. A maximum acceptable current threshold is determined according to a predetermined maximum voltage threshold, the dynamic internal resistance and the no-load voltage at the battery terminals.
