<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a large voltage from being applied to both ends of a pixel selection transistor without deteriorating the image quality of a display image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In a common-reversal drive for periodically switching the potential LCCOM of the common electrode 1b of a liquid crystal element LC, a reset period (TB', TB'') for reducing a potential difference between a pixel electrode 1a and the common electrode 1b is arranged between a first writing period (T1) for gradation display and a switching period for switching the potential LCCOM of the common electrode 1b. After the reset period, the switching period TC for switching the potential of the common electrode 1b is arranged. In the reset period, a plurality of scanning lines WL are simultaneously driven, and also, a data potential for reducing the potential difference between the common electrode 1b and the pixel electrode 1a is supplied to the pixel electrode 1a of each of pixels.
