PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drill having excellent chip discharge characteristics, and a cutting insert used for the drill. SOLUTION: In the cutting insert having a corner section and an upper face with a first side adjacent to the corner section, the cutting insert has a first cutting edge formed by extending from the corner section along the first side, and a first rake face along the first cutting edge on the upper face. The first cutting edge has an end adjacent to the corner section, and the other end separated from the corner section.
