PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated printing paper made by using a gap former papermaking machine, which is excellent in formation, internal bond strength, stiffness, and printability. SOLUTION: Of bleached pulp used for paper materials, 50 mass% or more is made of bleached pulp manufactured by a multi-step bleaching treatment process by using eucalyptus material or Mimosaceae material as a raw material. A process of making this coated printing paper includes the steps of forming wet paper by a gap former, squeezing water from the wet paper using one or more sets of shoe type wet press, drying the wet paper with a one-stage arrangement type dryer at least before surface treatment, providing one or more layers of pigment coated layer having a pigment and adhesive as a major component on at least one side of base paper obtained by surface treatment using transfer-type size pressing equipment. The coated printing paper has a weight weighted mean fiber length of disaggregation pulp of 0.6-2.0 mm, a fibre length distribution coefficients of 1.5-4.0, and a ratio of tensile strengths in longitudinal and latitudinal directions of 3.0 or less.
