<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a middle vertical shaft connection method which can safely connect a manhole and an existing pipe and can prevent the manhole from interfering with traffic. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A casing which is nearly round from a plane vision is provided from the ground to the top of the existing pipe which has been constructed in the ground, and a ring segment having a smaller outer diameter than the inner diameter of the casing is provided in the casing. Then a cutting edge segment having a nearly semicircular shape is provided at the lower part of the ring segment, and the cutting edge segment is provided not at the top of the existing pipe but at its side position. After the ring segment is provided to which the cutting edge segment is press-fitted and the cutting edge segment is buried to the side of the existing pipe, the internal space of the casing and the cutting edge segment and the internal space of the existing pipe are communicated with each other.
