<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lock mechanism for an optical module, which does not hinder high density arrangement of the optical module, has ease of operation, and also does not deteriorate the efficiency of space in the optical module. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The case 1 of the optical module incorporating an optical communication element includes: a lock member 4 that can swing and has a lock protrusion 8 lockable in the locking hole 10c of a cage 10 housing a case 1; a lever 3 slidable parallel to the direction in which the case 1 is pulled out; and a biasing member 6 that biases the lever 3 in a predetermined position. The lock protrusion 8 of the lock member 4 is locked in the locking hole 10c while the case 1 is housed in the cage 10 and the lever 3 is located in the initial position. In the process of being slid in the direction in which the case 1 is pulled out from the initial position against the biasing force of the biasing member 6, the lever 3 abuts on the lock member 4 and swings the lock member 4 within the case 1, thereby unlocking the lock protrusion 8 from the locking hole 10c.
