<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting element capable of easily improving the light extraction efficiency, and provide a display equipped with the light-emitting element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The light-emitting element 10 is composed of a light-emitting layer 11 formed on a reference plane, and equipped with an optically-transparent layer 12 including the light-emitting layer to emit light from a light emission face nearly parallel to the reference plane, and protruding parts 13 formed on the optically-transparent layer. A refractive index of the protruding parts is 0.9 times or more of that of the light-emitting layer. The sum of areas of faces nearly orthogonal to the reference planes of the protruding parts is 0.01 times or more of that of the areas of the faces nearly orthogonal to the reference plane of the optically-transparent layer including the light-emitting layer.
