摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical magnetic recording medium, having improved coercive force Hc by the improvement in the crystal orientation of a magnetic recording layer uniformly over the entire surface of a magnetic disk, thereby attaining a higher recording density. SOLUTION: In the vertical magnetic recording medium at least having the magnetic recording layer of granular structure, having a nonmagnetic grain boundary between magnetic particles that have grown continuously in a pillar shape on a substrate, the magnetic particles of the magnetic recording layer contain Co, Cr and Pt. The coercive force Hc in the disk plane is 4,500-5,500 [Oe], and the difference between the maximum and the minimum values of the coercive force Hc is not greater than 150 [Oe]; and Ku is the magnetic anisotropy constant, V the particle volume, k the Boltzmann constant and T the absolute temperature, and they satisfy the relation KuV/kT=60 to 100, as well as, (KuV/kT)/Hc=0.01 to 0.02.
