<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To downsize a boosting coil used in a boost converter to be mounted in a vehicle. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A multiphase converter to be mounted in a vehicle is provided with: multiple boosting coils; and a switching circuit that produces induced electromotive force in each boosting coil by switching current passed through each boosting coil. The converter applies output voltage to a vehicle drive circuit based on input voltage and the induced electromotive force produced in each boosting coil. In a designing method for this converter, a coupling factor, which indicates the degree of contribution of induced electromotive force in one of the boosting coils to interterminal voltage of the other, is determined based on the relation between the coupling factor and the current ripple component of each boosting coil.
