<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine, wherein, when plasma is generated in a combustion chamber using magnetron, an air-fuel mixture is ignited at an unintended timing if discharge is performed with an antenna emitting a microwave from the magnetron, and necessary torque cannot be acquired. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This method for controlling the spark-ignition internal combustion engine forms the spark discharge in the combustion chamber with an ignition plug and ignites the air-fuel mixture by amplifying spark discharge by a high-frequency electric field formed by the antenna, in the spark-ignition internal combustion engine including the ignition plug and the antenna provided in the combustion chamber and forming the high-frequency electric field in a direction perpendicular to the spark discharge direction of the ignition plug. The high-frequency electric field formed by the antenna is set to strength lower than an electric field formed by the ignition plug when performing the spark discharge and incapable of performing discharge into the combustion chamber through the antenna.
