PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a surface acoustic wave resonator while improving a Q value. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave resonator is provided with an IDT having electrode digits for exciting a surface acoustic wave on a crystal substrate. The IDT includes a first region arranged at a center part, and a second area and a third area arranged on both sides of the first region, and has a part where the frequency is constant in the first region and parts where the frequency gradually decreases toward ends of the IDT in the second region and third region. Here, 0.9815<Fb<SB>M</SB>/Fa<0.9953 and 0.9815<Fc<SB>N</SB>/Fa<0.9953 are satisfied, wherein Fa is the frequency in the first region, Fb<SB>M</SB>is the frequency at the end in the second region, and Fc<SB>N</SB>is the frequency at the end in the third region.
