The method involves providing a network model, which corresponds to a real existing or designed data transport network. Synchronous transport module network connections (14) of the network model are optimized. The transport network is set and optimized corresponding to the optimized network model. Reliability of the transport network is determined by executing availability analysis of data transmission capacities in the network model with capacity requirements at network connections by predetermined data transmission volumes in the network model.
