PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of accurately canceling the anisotropy of a dielectric constant, and correctly measuring the basis weight. SOLUTION: A plurality of rectangular dielectric resonators are coplanarly disposed on the same plane of a sheet-like sample so as to orient its longitudinal direction to the direction (θ) different from the reference direction. Resonance frequencies f<SB>1</SB>-f<SB>n</SB>of the resonators are measured. Shift quantitiesΔf<SB>1</SB>-Δf<SB>n</SB>of the rectangular dielectric resonators are obtained. A radius of a circle having the same area as an ellipse is obtained by plotting them on a polar coordinate system, and implementing an elliptic approximate process. The radius of the circle is a converted shift quantityΔfr obtained by canceling the dielectric anisotropy of the sample. The basis weight is obtained from the obtained converted shift quantityΔfr by using a relationship betweenΔfr and the basis weight. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
