<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve high-speed data recovery, high-capacity efficiency, and a self-recovery function. <P>SOLUTION: A storage system has: a first storage device having a plurality of first hard disk drives; and a first controller. The first controller stores data in the plurality of first hard disk drives in a stripe state. Each stripe has M pieces of data and N pieces of parity data allocated to M+N pieces of hard disk drives of the plurality of first hard disk drives. The first hard disk drive includes the parity data or the data of both a first stripe and a second stripe, and a second hard disk drive includes the parity data or data of only one of the first stripe and the second stripe. Data of a hard disk drive having failure are recovered by calculation using the parity data and data of another hard disk drive of each stripe. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
