PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination system performing lighting up control of an illumination fixture lit up by a lighting voltage with a frequency nearly equivalent to a commercial power source based on luminance detection by a luminance sensor, in which it is made possible to perform measurement of luminance accurately and speedily. SOLUTION: The illumination system is provided with a phase controlling part 3 outputting lighting voltage by performing a phase control of full-wave-rectified AC current, an illumination load 4 with the lighting voltage impressed, a luminance sensor 5 detecting luminance of an illuminated object and outputting a sensor voltage, and a controlling part 6 performing a lighting up control of the illumination load 4 based on the sensor voltage. The controlling part 6 performs luminance detection by the luminance sensor 5 in an On state of the lighting up voltage, and calculates an actual value of the detected sensor voltage, and performs the lighting up control of the illumination load 4 taking the value as a luminance of the object. With this, an accurate luminance measurement of the object is made possible enabling an accurate lighting up control.
